Manchin Brewing’s latest release is AWA HANA (泡花). Brewed in collaboration with Falling Piano Brewing Co. of Mexico, it is a cream IPA with açaí and berry. It has an alcohol content of 7.5% and an IBU of 50. Online sales are also being announced, making it a notable beer in the brewery’s latest lineup.

This brew apparently came together in conjunction with FOOD TO FUJI held in Tokyo. As the two sides developed ideas, they drew inspiration from Japanese gardener Tatsugoro Matsumoto, who traveled to Mexico, and from the landscape created by jacaranda blossoms. From there, the concept evolved into an expression centered on “purple,” leading to the addition of açaí and mixed berries. Rather than simply being a new fruit beer, the collaboration is interesting for the story behind it.

The finished beer has a slightly purplish hue and a liquid body that clearly retains a hoppy impression. It is tuned to emphasize mouthfeel without becoming too heavy. The dry hop centers on Mosaic with Strata added to bring out the berry character even more, according to the brewery. The oat-derived elements are not pushed too far to the foreground, with the recipe designed to balance flavor and drinkability.

Manchin Brewing is a brewery that opened in Hokuto, Yamanashi Prefecture in 2022, after renovating a former tripod factory. Focusing on drinkability, it has consistently brewed beers that go well with everyday meals and moods. While rooted in Hokuto’s nature and local connections, it actively incorporates seasonal ingredients and collaborations. AWA HANA can be seen as an extension of that approach, now broadened further through cooperation with an overseas brewery.
