Background of the Collaboration

Inkhorn Brewing's "Armadillo #3" is the third batch in a series based on "Armadillo," first brewed as a commemorative beer for PHAT Q's opening. Last year it was released for the first anniversary, and this year for the second; it is a beer that takes the relationship with PHAT Q, which has continued since Inkhorn Brewing's first food pop-up in the summer of 2021, and gives it tangible form.

The Finished Beer

The style is West Coast IPA, and the alcohol content is 7.0%. It opens with berry-like fruity aromas and sweet citrus notes derived from Mosaic, then leads into resinous, piney flavors and a firm bitterness. A small amount of Biscuit Malt adds a moderate malt character and helps shape the beer's overall outline, which is said to be a defining feature.

Pairing with Food

The post says that as time passes after release, the malt character will gradually emerge and it will take on an even more typical West Coast IPA expression. This year's batch is especially good, they say, and it is also highly compatible with PHAT Q's smoked meat dishes. At the anniversary event held in Nishi-Ikebukuro on Sunday, April 5, it is envisioned as something to enjoy together with BBQ.
