Hansharo Beer Announces "Mochuron," a West Coast IPA Starring NZ Hops
Hansharo Beer (Shizuoka) unveiled its new West Coast IPA, "Mochuron," on Instagram on February 24, 2026. Built around Motueka and Nectaron, with Riwaka, Nelson Sauvin, Simcoe, and Mosaic, it is designed for aromas reminiscent of white grapes and citrus, along with a clean finish.
Hansharo Beer’s New Release Is a West Coast IPA That Puts NZ Hops Front and Center
"Mochuron," announced by Hansharo Beer, is a new beer brewed in the West Coast IPA style. According to the published information, it has an alcohol content of 6.5% and an IBU of 40. While it has a strong hop character, the beer is designed to finish crisp and refreshing.
The hop bill centers on Motueka and Nectaron, with Riwaka, Nelson Sauvin, Simcoe, and Mosaic also used. The recipe is built to layer American hop citrus notes over the "dank" and tropical impression associated with NZ hops, aiming for a beer whose aroma evolves from the first impression through the aftertaste.
On the brewing side, the brewery says it aimed to create a more vibrant IPA by dip hopping the wort with Motueka and Nectaron before fermentation. The tasting notes describe the appearance as a clear gold and the flavor as evoking orange, pineapple, and white grapes. In the finish, a pleasant bitterness lingers, landing on a satisfying drinking experience.
The suggested pairing is "freshly fried tako karaage cut into large pieces." It seems designed to go with a salty, oily snack that brings out the hop aroma and bitterness. The post also notes that canned beer is scheduled to go on sale in March.
Based in Izunokuni, Shizuoka, Hansharo Beer has steadily released a wide range of styles, mixing core and limited offerings. This new "Mochuron" release appears to be another example of the brewery’s strength in hop expression.
