Kitakyushu's Mojiko Beer Factory introduced its recovery support beer, Amakusa Shiranui Weizen, to mark the 10th anniversary of the Kumamoto earthquake. This weizen, made with Shiranui from Amakusa, will donate part of its sales to local revitalization efforts in Kumamoto.
A Glass Filled with Feelings for Kumamoto
The craft brewery Mojiko Beer Factory in Kitakyushu is introducing its Kumamoto earthquake recovery support beer, Amakusa Shiranui Weizen. On its official website, it says the beer is being presented as an effort to keep feelings for recovery from fading and to sustain momentum for support, timed to the 10-year milestone since the disaster.
This beer is a weizen made with Shiranui from Amakusa. The fruit's tartness blends into the beer, creating a refreshing yet layered flavor. True to Mojiko Beer Factory, it is a brew that makes good use of local ingredients while also aiming for easy drinkability.
A portion of sales will be donated to Kumamoto local revitalization and earthquake recovery support. The official website says that a single glass directly turns into support for Kumamoto, making the act of drinking itself part of the assistance. The project is planned and supervised by the Kumamoto Nichinichi Shimbun.
The initiative is also part of an all-Kyushu support project by the Kyushu Craft Beer Association. The association was founded in 2017 after the Kumamoto earthquake, and Kyushu breweries have worked together to improve their technical skills and expand demand. It shows how craft beer can connect regions beyond prefectures and production areas.
Mojiko Beer Factory is based in Moji Ward, Kitakyushu, Fukuoka, and also operates restaurants and online sales. Known as a local beer from the tourist destination of Mojiko, it is also active in seasonal releases and collaboration projects, and this recovery support beer clearly reflects that stance.
Amakusa Shiranui Weizen can be ordered through the online shop's mix-and-match sets. Sets of 6, 10, 12, and 30 bottles are available, making it easy to use for both home drinking and gifts. It is the kind of project that makes you want to pick up a glass filled with feelings for Kumamoto in this milestone year.
