Onomichi Brewery Launches Refreshed Onomichi Real Ginger Ale
Onomichi Brewery has begun selling a refreshed version of Onomichi Real Ginger Ale, a spice beer made with fragrant ginger from local farm Onomichi Shiokaze Shoga. A cleaner base brings the ginger character forward while keeping the finish crisp.
Onomichi Brewery in Onomichi, Hiroshima, has refreshed the beer style of its spice beer, Onomichi Real Ginger Ale, and started sales.
The beer uses aromatic ginger grown by Onomichi Shiokaze Shoga, a specialty ginger farm in Onomichi. For the new version, the brewery has created a cleaner base to make the ginger character more pronounced. The result is designed to offer a refreshing ginger aroma and a light, crisp drinking experience.
The beer is brewed using a cold IPA method, in which lager yeast is fermented at a higher temperature. Rice from Onomichi, the locally grown variety Koi no Yokan, is also used to help create a clean finish. The spicy character of ginger is balanced by a fresh profile intended to pair easily with food.
Onomichi Brewery operates in a former storehouse built in 1894, tucked away at the end of a shopping street in Onomichi. The brewery focuses on “Made in Onomichi” craft beer, incorporating local fruits and agricultural products. Its lineup has included wheat beer made with hassaku citrus from Innoshima and a pale ale brewed with Onomichi lemons.
Onomichi Real Ginger Ale is available at the brewery and through the brewery’s online shop. It is a locally rooted beer that brings together Onomichi-grown ginger, rice, and the brewery’s distinctive brewing approach.
