Hansharo Beer, a brewery based in Izunokuni, Shizuoka, has announced the limited beer “Yohaku -Jasmine Saison-.” The beer comes from the brewery’s ABC (Ale & Books & Cider) project, which explores the relationship between beer, books, and cider.

The project began with the question: what kind of drink goes well with reading? The brewery set out to create a beer that would not interrupt the experience of turning pages, while leaving a quiet impression after the final page. Wheat malt and jasmine were chosen as central elements of the recipe.

“Yohaku -Jasmine Saison-” is a saison built around the soft mouthfeel of wheat malt and layered with the floral aroma of jasmine. Its light drinking character and lingering fragrance are intended to suit a slow pace, whether enjoyed between chapters or during a quiet evening. The name “Yohaku,” referring to the blank space or pause between lines, reflects the beer’s concept of leaving room for the drinker’s own time with a book.

Hansharo Beer brews in Izunokuni, home to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Nirayama Reverberatory Furnace. Its operator, Kuraya Narusawa, has roots in guiding visitors to the furnace as well as operating a sake brewery and tea fields, and began its craft beer business in 1997. The brewery produces regular beers alongside seasonal and collaborative releases inspired by the region.

For readers who enjoy pairing atmosphere with flavor, “Yohaku -Jasmine Saison-” offers a gentle option: open a book, pour the beer, and let its jasmine aroma unfold alongside the afterglow of the words. Details on availability and serving locations should be confirmed through Hansharo Beer’s official announcements.
