Onomichi Brewery has tapped its seasonal "Lime Gose." At the core of this recipe are "Tenku no Shio Papita", made by a saltworks that was revived in Onomichi for the first time in half a century, and limes from Kohnejima in the Setouchi region. The defining feature is a design that layers citrusy lime character over the salty edge typical of a gose.

Behind this beer is a call that came up during the Hiroshima Summit: "Let's make a peace beer at breweries in Hiroshima." In that flow, Onomichi Brewery got the idea of "purifying salt" and decided to brew Lime Gose. The collaborative brewing itself did not materialize, but as a result the brewery ended up with a new seasonal beer called "Lime Gose."

The other day, Miyajima Beer president Arimoto, who was at the center of the call, also visited and looked back on the circumstances at the time. Rather than being just a new release, this is a beer whose flavor is rooted in regional memory and human connections.

Onomichi Brewery is a craft brewery that uses a historic storehouse built in 1894 to make "Made in Onomichi" craft beer with local fruit and other ingredients. As a base for serving freshly brewed beer in Onomichi, it offers sales in-store as well as online. Lime Gose can also be purchased through that channel, making it accessible to fans who can't visit in person.

Gose with salt and citrus at the forefront is a style whose appeal grows as temperatures rise. For those who want to enjoy it together with the context of its regional ingredients, it looks set to be a standout beer this season.
