Onomichi Brewery in Onomichi City, Hiroshima, announced on June 24 that it is once again putting its seasonal "Mashiro Coffee Porter" on tap. The dark beer has appeared in recent years as a summer option, evoking the feeling of iced coffee, and it is also available through the brewery’s online shop.

The beer uses specialty coffee roasted in-house by "Kohibou Mashiro" in Mukaishima, Onomichi. The brewery says the coffee beans are steeped in a manner similar to dry hopping, giving the beer an aroma reminiscent of cold-brew coffee. At 5.5% ABV, it keeps the character of a porter while remaining easy to drink.

Onomichi Brewery itself operates in a renovated 1894 kura storehouse tucked away in Onomichi’s shopping district. The brewery focuses on "Made in Onomichi" craft beer, using local fruit and ingredients, and presents itself as a place where fresh beer can be enjoyed right in the city. Its official site also lists Mashiro Coffee Porter as a bronze medal winner at the International Beer Cup 2021, underscoring its position as a recurring favorite in the lineup.

For drinkers who like dark beer as well as those who prefer coffee-forward flavors, this is a seasonal beer worth trying chilled in the summer heat.
