Minoh Beer of Minoh City, Osaka, is releasing a seasonal black beer, the "Session Black IPA." Starting with its standard stout, the company has developed dark beers as one of the core pillars of its brand. In the fall and winter, it brews a strong dark beer, the "Imperial Stout," as well as the hop-forward 6% dark beer "Boss Zaru IPA" every year, and this new release is a spring-oriented addition to that lineup.

This new "Session Black IPA" was designed around the theme of a "black" beer that can be enjoyed lightly. It has an alcohol content of 4.5% and an IBU of 28. Strata and Simcoe are used on the hot side, with Strata used for dry hopping, layering hop aromas reminiscent of citrus and tropical fruit over the soft richness of roasted malt. It is black in color, best enjoyed at 6-8°C, and is finished unfiltered.

According to Minoh Beer, this beer also has the position of being a younger sibling to the "Boss Zaru IPA." While retaining the roasty character typical of a dark beer, it is defined by its reduced heaviness and easy drinkability, making it well suited to the warming temperatures of early spring.

Sales begin at 5:00 p.m. on April 3 in the official online shop. It will then roll out gradually to restaurants and liquor retailers from April 4. It looks like a new option for drinkers who want both the depth of a dark beer and the aroma typical of an IPA.
