GOOD HOPS launches and taps its first flagship beer, HOP FARMERS IPA
GOOD HOPS, the Tono, Iwate brewery that works from hop cultivation through brewing, has launched its first regular beer, HOP FARMERS IPA. In a July 31 Instagram post, the brewery also said it will tap the beer at its taproom this weekend and donate 50% of taproom sales to earthquake relief in Kumamoto.
GOOD HOPS is a brewery in Tono, Iwate, that handles hop cultivation, processing, and brewing as one integrated operation. "HOP FARMERS IPA," which went on sale on July 29, is its first regular beer and a clear expression of that approach. In its July 31 Instagram post, the brewery said the beer would also be tapped at the taproom over the weekend.
HOP FARMERS IPA
- Style: IPA
- ABV: 5.5%
- Hops: Tono-grown IBUKI, Tono-grown NoWind, Tono-grown Saaz
Brewed with 100% Tono-grown hops, the beer layers herbal and floral notes from IBUKI with a gentle fruit-like character from NoWind, then finishes with the restrained bitterness of Saaz. Rather than chasing an aggressive profile, GOOD HOPS says it aimed for a balanced IPA that remains easy to drink over several pints.
The Instagram post also announced that 50% of taproom sales on August 1 and 2 would be donated to support relief efforts for the earthquake in Kumamoto. A donation box will be set up in the taproom as well. For beer fans, it is a release that connects a new core beer with the brewery's local hop-growing story and a concrete support effort at the same time.
