A post that starts with a late-night patrol

Himitsu Beer, based in Ise, Mie, introduced its new release, Racco IPA, in an Instagram post dated June 21. The post opens with a personal story about going out at night with the brewer’s son to check kunugi oak trees for stag beetles, and then shifts into the beer announcement.

What Racco IPA is

Racco IPA is a session IPA with 4.5% ABV. The hop bill includes Cryo Citra, Cryo Mosaic, Citra, and Riwaka, bringing together the bright character of American hops with the distinct personality of New Zealand varieties. According to the brewery, the goal was a beer that feels easy to drink while still delivering a strong hop aroma and plenty of flavor depth.

Flavor direction

The post describes white grape and pear-like aromas, grapefruit-forward citrus, and hints of small red berries, alongside a dank, grassy edge. It also notes that the beer looks slightly hazy because of the amount of hop oil used. The body is kept light, with restrained sweetness and only a modest touch of toastiness, so the hop character stays in front.

Likely positioning

Himitsu Beer says Racco IPA will likely be brewed as a semi-regular offering going forward. Rather than a one-off limited release, it appears to be intended as a repeatable IPA built around hop aroma and freshness. For drinkers who like expressive hop character without heavy bitterness, it is a straightforward, practical release from the Ise brewery.
