On April 29, Kamakura Beer released "Sunset IPA," the second entry in its ROUTE134 Beer series. This amber-colored IPA is inspired by Route 134 at dusk and the coastline of Shonan, and the company is also suggesting a tasting comparison with the first release, "Sunshine IPA."
On April 29, 2026, Kamakura Beer released "Sunset IPA," the second entry in its ROUTE134 Beer series. True to its identity as a company born and raised in Kamakura, this new product is themed around the scenery of Route 134, which runs along the Shonan coast.
"Sunset IPA" was designed as a beer to enjoy during the gentle hours before the sun goes down. While the first release, "Sunshine IPA," had a crisp bitterness that suited the sea shining under bright sunlight, the second release is crafted to match the calm atmosphere of dusk. This amber-colored IPA has a gentle malt character, with a slightly sweet aroma and a clean, sharp malt flavor. It also carries a fruity fragrance reminiscent of ripe fruit, while the bitterness is kept restrained so that it only tightens the finish.
According to Kamakura Beer, it is an easy recommendation even for people who dislike beer's bitterness or strong aromas and prefer a clean taste. It has an alcohol content of 4.5%, comes in 350 ml cans, and is being offered as a product that can be stored at room temperature.
The package design, as with the first release, was handled by Kamakura-based illustrator Kanata Yokoyama. It intricately depicts evening scenes from Kamakura and Shonan, including Zaimokuza Beach, Inamuragasaki, Mount Fuji tinted by the sunset, Enoshima Lighthouse, and the headlights stretching along Route 134.
Sales will take place not only at selected stores in the Kamakura and Shonan areas, but also through the online shop. The company is also suggesting the enjoyment of switching between Sunshine IPA and Sunset IPA depending on the time of day and your mood.
