Y.Market Brewing to host a hands-on Aichi hop harvest event in August
Y.Market Brewing will hold “Inabu Hop Farm Midsummer Hop Harvest 2026” on August 1, 5, and 8 in Toyoda, Aichi. Participants will harvest locally grown hops, which are then taken to the brewery the same day and used for a limited beer.
Harvesting Aichi hops and brewing the same day
Y.Market Brewing will host a public participation event, “Inabu Hop Farm Midsummer Hop Harvest 2026,” on August 1, August 5, and August 8, 2026. The venue is Ohnoze-cho in Toyoda City, Aichi Prefecture, formerly part of Inabu. Each session is limited to 25 participants, and admission is free.
What makes the event notable is the brewery’s plan to transport the harvested hops to the brewery by refrigerated truck and start brewing on the same day. The hops picked at the farm will be used in a limited beer called Inabu Farmhouse Ale 2026, and those who sign up on the event day will be able to reserve the beer at a special pre-release price.
A brewery rooted in Nagoya
Y.Market Brewing opened in 2014 at Yanagibashi Central Market near Nagoya Station and is recognized as Nagoya’s first craft brewery. Since then, the brewery has produced more than 500 different beers. This hop harvest event continues that approach by showing where a beer begins, not just how it tastes in the glass.
The brewery has grown hops in Toyoda’s Ohnoze-cho since 2021 and is now entering its sixth harvest year with the support of local partners. Hops are a key ingredient that shape a beer’s aroma and flavor, and freshness matters greatly once they are picked. That is why the brewery frames the project around the idea that “a beer begins in the field.”
What participants can expect
The program includes hop harvesting, lunch, and an introduction to hop cultivation and brewing. The event is canceled in case of rain, and participants are advised to wear long sleeves and long pants for safety and comfort in the field. The harvested hops cannot be taken home, but the appeal lies in seeing the journey from fresh farm material to finished beer up close.
For beer fans, it is a chance to connect the pint in the glass with the farm, the growers, and the brewers behind it. That is a fitting expression of Y.Market Brewing’s hands-on, place-based approach to craft beer.
