Pecora Beer Releases DDH West Coast IPA “Merino” and Also Wins JGA2026 Silver
Pecora Beer, based in Asao Ward, Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, has announced its new release, "#050 Merino / Merino." It is a DDH West Coast IPA with ABV 7.0% and IBU 110, a beer designed to put its bitterness and aroma front and center.
Pecora Beer, which operates a brewery in Asao Ward, Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, is a brewery whose representative, who holds beer judge certification, handles the brewing. At the adjoining "Pecora Beer Kitchen," visitors can enjoy up to nine kinds of house-made craft beer, making the brewery and taproom one integrated operation.
The new release announced on Instagram this time is "#050 Merino / Merino." Its style is DDH West Coast IPA, and with ABV 7.0% and IBU 110, it is designed with clearly defined numbers as well. The hops used are Cascade and Mosaic, with Abstrax Tech's liquid hop concentrate "Mosaic Quantum" added as well. While layering in a fresh citrus-like aroma, it aims for firm bitterness and a clean finish.
The name Merino comes from the name of a sheep breed. It fits Pecora Beer's sheep motif and gives the naming a sense of consistency, and the post also revealed that it won a silver medal in the Imperial India Pale Ale category in the Keg division of the Japan Great Beer Awards 2026. As a new release that balances the classic bitterness of IPA with the aroma of modern hops, this is one West Coast IPA fans will want to keep an eye on.
