Yellow Monkey Brewing (Yokohama, Kanagawa) has unveiled a new batch of its core beer "KAIZOKU" on its official Instagram. In a photo showing a can and glass side by side, the bold "KAIZOKU" lettering on the black can stands out, underscoring its presence as the brand's flagship product.

In this batch, the use of rice koji is said to add depth to the flavor, leaving a gentle umami on the finish. The hop character is intentionally held back a little, creating a structure that brings a clean lager profile to the forefront while the malt aftertaste spreads quietly.

The base is a New Zealand-style pilsner. By layering Japanese fermentation culture and sensibilities on top of that, YMB continues to refresh the beer so it is more than just a "regular." On its official website as well, the brewery states its mission from Yokohama as "connecting people through beer and sports and spreading smiles," while emphasizing a playful approach to making beer.

For YMB, a core beer is not a finished product but something to be nurtured through ongoing tweaks. This latest KAIZOKU is a direct reflection of that philosophy. Rather than relying on flashiness, it tries to redefine what a core beer can be, with a style that reveals its contours more and more the further you drink it.
