COEDO Brewery, based in Higashimatsuyama, Saitama, has announced the release of OFURO ALE, a collaborative anniversary beer created with Onsen Dojo to mark the bathhouse operator’s 15th anniversary. The project is part of COEDO’s YELL PROJECT and brings together the brewery’s craft beer expertise and Onsen Dojo’s bathhouse culture.

A Saitama-inspired citrus and spice profile

OFURO ALE uses three locally sourced ingredients from Saitama: Tokigawa sansho pepper from Tokigawa Town, yuzu from Ogose Town, and rice from Higashimatsuyama. The combination is intended to express a balance of citrus freshness and gentle spice, while rice contributes to a lighter, more refreshing character.

The beer is brewed in the Kölsch style, which combines the fruity aroma associated with ales with a clean, crisp finish reminiscent of lagers. Its flavor profile was designed specifically for enjoying after a bath, when a bright and easy-drinking beer can be especially appealing.

OFURO ALE contains 5% alcohol and is packaged in 350ml cans. It will be sold for ¥780 including tax from September 19, 2026, at Onsen Dojo facilities including Tamagawa Onsen, Ofuro Café Hakujyu-no-Yu, Ofurocafe Utatane, Ofuro Café Hareniwa-no-Yu, BIO-RESORT HOTEL&SPA O Park Ogose, COMORIVER, Chichibu Yumoto Buko Onsen, and The Ryokan Tokyo Yugawara / Ofuro Café HITOMA. It will also be available at COEDO KIOSK in Kawagoe.

From the recipe and flavor design to the label, the two companies worked closely on the project. OFURO ALE offers a new meeting point between Saitama’s bathing culture and COEDO’s locally minded approach to craft beer.
