Pecora Beer, based in Asao Ward, Kawasaki, Kanagawa, introduced its new beer, "#055 Black Sheep." The beer is a Coffee Porter with 5.5% ABV and 34 IBU, and the brewery describes it as a cup-like beer with layered aromas of dark-roasted coffee beans and malt.
Pecora Beer is a small brewery run by a brewer who holds beer judge credentials. It began brewing in July 2024 and has since operated its own taproom, taken part in events, and sold beer to bars and liquor shops. The brewery focuses on clean, bold American-style beers while building a local presence in Kawasaki.
This release is Version 4 of Black Sheep. For this batch, the brewery steeped coffee beans from Roast Design Coffee, a roastery in Shinyurigaoka, into the fermentation tank. The beans used were Ethiopia Sidama Bensa Shantawane, and the beer is presented as a robust porter that balances coffee-driven roast character with malt depth.
The beer has already earned a silver medal in the keg/draft coffee beer category at Japan Great Beer Awards 2026. That recognition gives the release added weight, especially for drinkers who follow coffee beers and dark styles. As a recurring series within Pecora Beer’s lineup, Black Sheep looks to be evolving with each version while staying true to its roasted, malt-forward identity.
