Naginone Brewing in Kushima, Miyazaki, has unveiled Naginone SETOKA, a new release built around Setoka citrus. The brewery describes it as its first beer featuring citrus, with a production run of just 291 bottles and a retail price of 2,420 yen for a 750 ml bottle.

The fruit was handled by hand, with the peel, flesh, and pressed residue all folded into the brew. Rather than chasing the crisp, easy-drinking profile often associated with beer, the brewery chose a lightly sparkling style designed more like a wine-like drink that changes as you sip it. The mouthfeel starts rich and viscous, then gives way to sweet citrus aroma and a gentle peel-derived bitterness.

The brewery itself is a small-scale operation on the former site of Yabiko Nursery School in Kushima. Founded by Takashi Tamura, a former shochu distiller, Naginone Brewing has built its identity around handcraft, bottle conditioning, and local ingredients. Its flagship Yabiko Ale also uses lemongrass from the area, showing the same local, seasonal approach that shapes SETOKA.
