Better life with upcycle releases “Honey & Bread,” a new brew crafted with domestic upcycled honey and bread crusts
Kanagawa-based Better life with upcycle is offering Belgian-Style Honey Ale “Honey & Bread.” It is a collaboration product that turns food-loss ingredients into value by combining domestic upcycled honey from Miel Mie, a long-established Kyoto honey specialty shop, with bread crusts.
What’s inside Honey & Bread
Better life with upcycle’s “Honey & Bread” is a honey ale fermented with Belgian yeast from wort and honey, using Polaris as a single hop. On the product page, it is introduced as a beer designed around fruity aromas from the yeast, hop aromas reminiscent of green apple and mint, and a layered profile where caramel-like malt character and honey flavor overlap.
The specs are Belgian-Style Honey Ale, ABV 5.0%, IBU 45, and SRM 14. The contents are 350 ml, and the price is 627 yen including tax (listing information as of November 13, 2025).
How food-loss ingredients are used
The core of this product lies in the re-editing of two ingredients. One is honey that is stored for quality checks and may be discarded once its role is complete, even though it is still edible. The other is bread crusts. By replacing these with a new drinking experience, it does not leave “not wasting” as a mere slogan, but carries it through to the beer’s flavor identity.
Brewery context
Better life with upcycle is based in Kanagawa (the official listed headquarters address is Ebina City, Kanagawa Prefecture) and, as a brand with roots in bakery culture, develops upcycled products centered on bread. Its official Story page explains how the brand built on the history of a bakery founded in 1923 and connected that background to craft beer production. In addition, its Sustainability page discloses efforts to reduce environmental impact throughout the manufacturing process, including PCF calculations for major products and a switch to renewable energy.
For drinkers who value both flavor quality and the background of the ingredients, “Honey & Bread” is worth checking out not as a concept-first beer, but as one where design and context fit together.
