Setouchi Brewery Releases New IPA "HOP HOPPING ROOM001" Featuring Elani®
Setouchi Brewery in Takamatsu, Kagawa, has launched a new series, "HOP HOPPING," with hop character at the center. The first release, "ROOM001," is an India Pale Ale featuring Elani® as the key hop, with aromas reminiscent of peach and guava.
First in the New Series
Setouchi Brewery, based in Takamatsu, Kagawa, has unveiled HOP HOPPING ROOM001 as the first release in its new HOP HOPPING series. Built around the concept of focusing on a single hop and making its character the star, each bottle is designed to open the door to a new “ROOM.”
Elani® as the Key Hop
The key hop in ROOM001 is Elani®. According to the product description, it offers a soft tropical aroma characteristic of this new variety, with notes of peach and guava. The style is India Pale Ale, and the alcohol content is 6.5%. It is priced at 890 yen, with a best-before date of December 2026.
Aroma and Flavor Design
For the tasting profile, it starts with tropical aromas evoking peach and passion fruit, then layers in a rich green character, bitterness, and citrus. The brewery says it uses a special method to extract the hop’s flavorful compounds, and also uses oats to give the beer a softer mouthfeel. The result is a beer that balances bitterness and softness while clearly showcasing the shape of the hop character.
A Setouchi Brewery Approach
Setouchi Brewery has continued making beers that balance drinkability and individuality against the backdrop of Setouchi’s atmosphere. This HOP HOPPING series seems positioned for beer fans who want to carefully explore the differences between hops. Rather than a one-off new release, it feels like the opening chapter of a series whose future ROOM releases will be worth watching.
