Release highlights

Better life with upcycle, the craft brewery based in Ebina, Kanagawa, will launch Oriental Citrus Ale on June 9, 2026. The beer is made with off-grade Shonan Gold grown by Senior Network Odawara & Ashigara (SNOA) in Odawara, along with Sichuan pepper for a bright, cooling finish.

Beer profile

The beer is built on a Kölsch-style base, which gives it a light and easy-drinking character. Shonan Gold contributes a fresh citrus aroma, while Sichuan pepper adds a crisp, aromatic lift that lingers on the finish.

According to the release, the beer is labeled Kolsch-style Ale w/ SHONAN GOLD, Sichuan Pepper. It comes in a 350 ml can, has 5.0% ABV, 19 IBU, and will be sold through the brewery’s direct e-commerce site at 572 yen including tax, excluding shipping.

Upcycle at the core

Better life with upcycle was founded from a bakery with more than a century of history, and its beers are built around the idea of turning underused ingredients into something new. In this release, the brewery also replaces 10% of the malt with bread crumbs, combining grain- and fruit-based upcycling in a single product.

That approach fits the brewery’s broader identity: a beer brand rooted in baking, sustainability, and local collaboration. Rather than treating ingredients as waste, it turns them into part of the flavor story.

Serving idea

The brewery suggests pairing Oriental Citrus Ale with citrus-based appetizers, ethnic dishes, and spicy food. Before the official release, the beer is also scheduled to appear as a draft pour at EBINA BOOZE FEST 2026 on June 6 and 7 in Ebina Central Park.

For beer drinkers looking for something light, aromatic, and tied to a clear local story, Oriental Citrus Ale looks like a well-timed seasonal release.
