Lineup for April 18

At the small beer pub Craft Beer Bar Marumugi in Arakicho, Shinjuku Ward, five beers were announced as the “Beer Menu of the Day” for April 18. Prices are 1,200 yen + tax for a large serving and 900 yen + tax for a small serving, and the lineup is centered on beers at 5% ABV or below. It is a menu that makes it easy to drink through the evening lightly.

The lineup for the day features Akita’s HOPDOG BREWING with “39 OTAMA SAISON,” Tochigi’s Romantic Village Craft Brewery with “Mugi 4.5ro,” Shizuoka’s Baird Brewing with “Wheat King Wit,” Ise Kadoya Beer with “Golden Dragon,” and Nagano’s Minamishinshu Beer with “Hima Bitter.” From saison and wit to malt-forward brews with toastiness and even a more bitter-leaning pour, the selection brings together a range of distinct styles.

The owner’s comments also briefly summarize each beer’s character. For example, “39 OTAMA SAISON” is described as “light and dry, with aroma that carries the drink,” “Mugi 4.5ro” as “light, toasty, and impossible to stop drinking,” and “Wheat King Wit” as “light, fruity, and refreshingly witbier-like.” The balance between lightness on the palate and aroma is the main theme of the day. “Golden Dragon” is accompanied by wording that highlights its sharp hop character, while “Hima Bitter” presents a springlike bitterness.

Marumugi is a beer bar located a three-minute walk from Yotsuya-Sanchome Station, a calm spot tucked into the alleys of Arakicho. Though the shop is compact, its appeal lies in carefully following a lineup where the character of each keg comes through clearly. It is also well suited to comparing one beer at a time after work, and this day’s low-ABV lineup should appeal to those who want to enjoy multiple beers without overdoing it.

The shop also states that, from December 5, 2024 onward, it is closed on Tuesdays and public holidays. It is best to check the business days before visiting.
