A new hop variety used fresh

GOOD HOPS began sales of the keg version of FRESH GREEN on September 29, 2026. The beer is a Fresh Hop Ale with an ABV of 5.5%, brewed exclusively with hops grown in Tono: Compact Green, Cascade, and Saaz.

The defining feature of FRESH GREEN is its use of fresh, undried cones from Compact Green, a new hop variety developed by GOOD HOPS. Compact Green is known for its green, plant-like aroma and refreshing bitterness. While the brewery had previously used the variety to sharpen the overall hop profile of other beers, this release places it at the center of the recipe.

Citrus notes that open as the beer warms

FRESH GREEN aims to express not only the aroma of fresh hops but also what GOOD HOPS describes as the “freshness of bitterness” found in newly harvested hops. Cascade was added to complement Compact Green, allowing its green character and crisp bitterness to remain prominent while a softer citrus aroma gradually opens as the beer warms.

The keg product was offered first to commercial customers, with sales beginning at 3:00 p.m. on September 29. A canned version for general consumers is scheduled for release in early October. Availability and release updates are provided through GOOD HOPS’ official channels.

GOOD HOPS is based in Tono, one of Japan’s leading hop-growing regions. The brewery works across cultivation, hop research and development, and brewing, with the goal of expanding the possibilities of Japanese-grown hops. Tono’s hop-growing history dates back to 1963, and GOOD HOPS continues that local tradition through new varieties and its own processing research.

By focusing on the green aroma and crisp bitterness of freshly harvested hops, FRESH GREEN offers a seasonal expression of GOOD HOPS’ efforts to develop Japanese hop culture. It is a limited release that shows how the brewery’s locally grown ingredients can shape a beer from the field to the glass.
