The Aim of the New Lager

Nomcraft Brewing, based in Aridagawa Town, Arida District, Wakayama Prefecture, has unveiled its new beer, "Neon Lager." This beer is designed as a "modern lager" that builds on the classic lagers brewer Mark excels at, while layering in bright aromas derived from thiols.

The Finished Profile

In the Instagram post, the aroma impression is described as having a refreshing citrus and white-grape-like quality, with restrained bitterness. The carbonation is smooth, making it the kind of beer that goes down easily. The specs are ALC. 4.5%, IBU 20, and 2.7 volumes of carbonation. It uses Pilsener and Cara Pils malts, Saaz, Cascade, and Super Sauvin hops, and is finished with lager yeast.

What to Look For in the Flavor

A lager that puts thiols front and center differs from an IPA that pushes hop intensity; it can give aroma more definition within a clean, crisp drinking profile. Nomcraft Brewing's description also emphasizes a finish that is crisp and easy to drink, while still allowing vivid aromas to shine through. As food pairings, fried chicken, bang bang chicken, and cream cheese are suggested, so it should work well as an all-purpose meal-time beer.

About Nomcraft Brewing

Nomcraft Brewing is a brewery launched through the renovation of part of a former daycare building in Aridagawa Town. Next door is Golden River, a craft beer and hamburger cafe, and the brewery has been promoting "town-building through craft beer" in step with the local community. Given the background of an international team that has pursued a balance of drinkability and character with an American-style focus, this Neon Lager can be seen as a beer that clearly reflects that approach.
