Hop Kotan Brewing releases West Coast Pilsner “Tansho Mosaic”
Hop Kotan Brewing in Kamifurano, Hokkaido, has announced a new beer, Tansho Mosaic. The West Coast Pilsner puts Mosaic hops front and center, with 5.5% ABV and 30 IBU. It is also slated for sale on the JR Hokkaido Mankitsu Norokko train on August 30.
With hop harvest now underway and Harvest Brew season beginning, Hop Kotan Brewing has introduced Tansho Mosaic. The beer layers Mosaic in several forms, including T-90, CRYO, Dynaboost, and hop oil, while also bringing in Kamifurano Cascade and Simcoe to sharpen the hop profile.
The base is a light, crisp West Coast Pilsner. Rather than pushing weight, the recipe aims to highlight the hop character Mosaic is known for: tropical fruit, citrus, berries, and a distinctive dank edge. At 5.5% ABV and 30 IBU, it is designed to balance easy drinkability with a clear hop presence.

Hop Kotan Brewing is based in Kamifurano, Hokkaido, and is known for brewing with local hops at the center of its approach. Its official site describes its core lineup as beers made with 100% Kamifurano-grown hops, so this release fits squarely within the brewery’s regional identity. As a limited beer built around Mosaic, Tansho Mosaic continues that line of thinking.
It is also scheduled for sale on the JR Hokkaido Mankitsu Norokko train on August 30.
