What kind of brewery is Yokogawa Brewery?

There’s a nanobrewery with just 10 seats, a 2-minute walk from JR Yokogawa Station in Hiroshima. It’s called Yokogawa BREWERY.

A brewery two minutes from the station!? What do you mean by nanobrewery?

It’s a brewery even smaller than a microbrewery. Here, the first floor has a counter, and the second floor has relaxed seating, giving it a cafe-like atmosphere. You can drop in alone, and it also attracts many women.

That’s great that you can enjoy craft beer as casually as you would at a cafe! What kinds of beer do they have?

“Yokogawa Pale Ale” is the standard pale ale named after the neighborhood. “Vic Secret” is a beer made with Australian Vic Secret hops; those hops give off tropical aromas like passion fruit and pineapple. “YOKOGAWA Black” is a dark beer, and there’s also a brown ale called “Fleur Brown,” inspired by flowers.

Vic Secret is the name of a hop! Having so many beers named after Yokogawa also shows how much they love the local area.

Because the brewery is right in the middle of town, one of its strengths is being able to serve beer straight from the tap, freshly brewed. Beer that hasn’t deteriorated during distribution really is a different thing. It’s also nice that you can choose a glass that suits your taste while consulting with the owner.

Being able to drink it fresh must be such a luxury... Do they do events too?

They regularly hold an event called “Craft Beer and Otomo,” where you can enjoy craft beer paired with aromas, curry, chocolate, and more. It feels like the whole Yokogawa neighborhood is getting energized together.

Beer with aroma, curry, and chocolate!? That combination is so interesting! It’s close enough to stop by after work, so maybe I’ll go next weekend!
