Tall Boys Brewing

Tall Boys Brewing, or TBB for short. The head brewer here, Collin Blodgett, is from Spokane, Washington, in the U.S., and he's the real deal - he was helping make beer alongside his father, a homebrewer, from around age 12.

He majored in biochemistry in college and came to Japan in 2008. After studying international affairs at a university in Tokyo, he got a job at a company in Nagoya, but corporate life just never really fit him. He started thinking he really wanted to brew beer after all.

That's when he met Shannon Rob Douglas of BEYSHORE Inc. in 2018. They hit it off, and in 2019 he received hands-on training at Heretic Brewing in California. What's more, the brewery itself was built by the two of them through a DIY renovation of a former steel factory.

It's in a residential neighborhood within walking distance of Kasadera Station, and the taproom has eight taps running at all times. And the beer is great too. There's Midnight Ride West, a West Coast IPA made with German and British malt and hops from the U.S., Australia, and New Zealand. The brewing water is from Nagoya.

Two Hop Pale Ale is a simple pale ale that goes all in with just two hop varieties, and Three Banger Triple IPA is a triple IPA that really hits with a strong alcohol kick. They also make Toasted Breakfast Porter, a porter inspired by breakfast, so they're definitely pushing the boundaries.

Since they produce only 570 liters per batch, the best way to enjoy it is fresh at the taproom. They also do collaboration events with DD4D, and they're becoming more and more visible in Nagoya's craft beer scene.
