Martinez Brewery

Martinez Brewery is a brewery launched by Tsutomu Takahashi, the president of DATZ Co., Ltd., which operates multiple restaurants in Nagoya. The brewery is inside Shokudo Martinez, a one-minute walk from Motoyama Station.

It has two faces: a craft burger and spice curry diner by day, and a popular tavern by night. In the back, through glass, you can see three 300-liter fermentation and storage tanks. Watching beer being made right in front of you while you eat is irresistible.

It started when he was impressed by canned craft beer. That inspired his dream of "serving beer brewed in-house at his own stores," and the person chosen as head brewer was Yuya Sugie. He is from Tokoname and studied chemistry at university.

He has an interesting background. It all started when he worked part-time at Takahashi's bar as a student. After that, he worked in Osaka's restaurant industry, ran a coffee shop for seven years, returned to DATZ in 2012, and then trained in brewing at a brewery in Mie in 2018. What looks like a detour all connects in the end.

The first beer was a session ale brewed in May 2023. Now the lineup has expanded to Martinez IPA, New England IPA, pale ale, juicy pale ale, and Weizen. They even make a fruit Weizen called "Strawberry Night," which shows their playful spirit.

DATZ also serves seasonal craft beer at one of its sister locations in Meieki called Fukuro, so the beer made at Martinez is spreading across the group's restaurants. That's the strength of in-house brewing and in-house service.
