Hop BroMountain River Brewery is the first brewery along the Inokashira Line. It opened in 2018 right in the middle of a residential neighborhood in Kugayama as a microbrewery.

Hop BroIt's a five-minute walk from Kugayama Station, on the first floor of a lumber yard's building. The origin of the name is great too. The "mountain" comes from the "yama" in Kugayama, and the "river" comes from the nearby Kanda River. The place itself became the name.

Hop BroBrewmasters Takashi Yamamoto and Ryoichi Ishikawa run it together. Their first release was a Belgian White. Since then, they've been making around 20 beers centered on Belgian styles with bottle conditioning, plus IPAs, saisons, stouts, and other ales.

Hop BroIt's interesting that their label names are scattered with Kugayama and mountain/river motifs, like "Kugayama Golden Ale," "2525 IPA," "River Saisons," and "Mountain White." They even have a fruit ale called "Holy Ring."

Hop BroThey've also brewed collaboration beers with other mountain-themed breweries, like Takao Beer and Distant Shores Brewing in Higashimurayama. Being open on weekday mornings and offering tastings is also something you only get at a brewery this size.
MugiDrinking from weekday mornings sounds amazing... It's easy to stop by on the Inokashira Line when you're heading to Kichijoji. I want to buy bottles and take them home!
