What kind of brewery is Asagaya Beer Kobo?
Hop BroDo you know Asagaya Beer Kobo? It's a one-minute walk north from JR Asagaya Station's north exit. It's one of the "Beer Kobo" brewpub chain locations, but this place has a bit of a story behind it.
MugiIf it's a chain, is it run by a big company?
Hop BroNo, it's a company called Bakushu Kikaku Co., Ltd. The founder, Natsuoka Nomura, started the first one in Koenji in 2010. Nomura was deeply moved by the sight of a brewer making beer alone while traveling, and after apprenticing in brewing, store building, and management at Kibidote-gedashi Beer in Okayama, he went independent.
MugiIt all started with a chance encounter while traveling... that's so romantic.
Hop BroThe first Koenji shop was a converted photo studio, and from there it expanded to Koenji, Ogikubo, Nakano, Nishi-Ogikubo, Takadanobaba, and Tokorozawa. The Asagaya location opened in 2012 and moved to its current spot in 2016.
MugiIt kept growing along the Chuo Line area. What are the beers like?
Hop BroThe standard blonde is easy to drink even for people who usually don't like beer. Cream is an ale with fruity hop aromas. The IPA has a nice balance of sweetness and firm bitterness. Another interesting point is that the lineup varies a little by location.

Hop BroNomura's concept is "a neighborhood beer shop." You can get takeout too, and the Asagaya location has 20 taps, offering a wide selection that includes beers from other locations in the chain as well as guest beers. Their achievement in making "a neighborhood spot where you can drink freshly brewed beer" take root along the Chuo Line is significant.
MugiAsagaya's shopping streets are fun too, and it sounds nice to stroll around, buy beer, and head home!
