MugiOne year already! Fresh out of the gate! Kabutocho, as in the stock exchange district?
Hop BroExactly, right near the Tokyo Stock Exchange. These days, Kabutocho is turning into a cultural spot through redevelopment, with Brooklyn Brewery's world-first flagship store, B, opening there. Bordy's is brewing its own beer right in the middle of all that.
MugiWow, Kabutocho has become that kind of place? So what kind of beer are they making?
Hop BroThey really go for it. They've got a beer called KING WINS ABURA BLACK OOLONG IPA, an IPA brewed with black oolong tea as a secondary ingredient. It's 6.0% ABV and 25 IBU. They describe it as something that seems like it should exist, but never did, and that's exactly right.
MugiA black oolong tea IPA!? What even is that! A beer that cuts through oil... ? I'm ridiculously curious!
Hop BroThey also have a hazy IPA called Chistole. It has citrusy, berry-like hop character and juiciness, but finishes light-bodied and dry. At 6.0%, people say it drinks like a session beer.
MugiJuicy but dry sounds really easy to drink! Do they have other beers too?
Hop BroThere's SEA GETS HOTTER and Open Arms, and more recently a collaboration release called NO HANDLE BAR. They're still a young brewery at just one year old, but they're putting out new beers one after another and really building momentum. They also run their own beer bar, DRAGON BORRACHO, in Yaesu.
MugiDRAGON BORRACHO is an insanely memorable name too! You could hop between the Kabutocho brewery and the Yaesu bar.
Hop BroIn just one year since opening, they've released this many beers, done collaborations, and operated their own bar, so they've clearly got stamina. They keep a playful edge with beers like the black oolong tea IPA, while also making hazy IPAs at a high level. They may not be widely known yet, but I think they're a new star in the Kabutocho area worth watching.
