Abukuma Riverside Brewery

Abukuma Riverside Brewery is a brewery along the Abukuma River in Tamagawa Village, Fukushima, and its brewing director, Masaki Wada, has a pretty interesting background. He used to be a member of the Regional Revitalization Cooperation Squad.

Tamagawa Village was once a place where hop cultivation was thriving, but that know-how had been lost. Wada noticed that and took on the mission of making "beer that only Tamagawa Village can make," so after finishing his term with the cooperation squad, he joined Abukuma Beer.

The brewery is inside the roadside station "Otona Eki Tamakawa," and brewing began in 2025. It operates on a small scale with 500 to 1,000 liter batches, and its signature beer, "Otona Mugi," is a session IPA with 4.5% alcohol. It has a refreshing aroma like citrus and white grapes, with restrained bitterness. The goal is to make a beer you never get tired of drinking.

"Otona Komugi" is a white ale, and "Asaka Mai Ale" is a rice ale made with Fukushima's brand rice, Asaka Mai. And the recently released "Pomme STAR" is a saison-style beer made with San Fuji apples from Oguro Orchard in Sukagawa City. "Yuzu Ale" combines local yuzu peel and juice with wheat malt.

That's the real strength of this brewery. They want to pour Fukushima's agricultural products into a single glass of beer and become a presence that connects people and the region. Their official e-commerce shop recently opened too, so people far away can buy it now.
