huîtrière releases AKKESHI EMERALD, the first beer in its Hanasaki Line project
Hokkaido-based brewery huîtrière launched AKKESHI EMERALD on August 1 as the first release in its Hanasaki Line project. The summer hoppy lager is inspired by the Bessanbetsu Wetland, and part of the proceeds will support the railway.
Hokkaido brewery huîtrière has released AKKESHI EMERALD, the first beer in its Hanasaki Line project, on August 1, 2026. The project is designed to express the four seasons of the Hanasaki Line, a local railway connecting Kushiro and Nemuro, while donating part of the sales to support activities for the line.
A summer scene from Akkeshi in a glass
AKKESHI EMERALD is described as a summer hoppy lager inspired by the Bessanbetsu Wetland at 9:25 in the morning. The beer is said to offer bright aromas reminiscent of lime and melon, with a clean, refreshing finish that captures the feel of a clear summer day. It is brewed with Motueka, El Dorado, and Citra hops, at 5.0% ABV, and is sold in 350 ml cans/bottles for 850 yen including tax.
A brewery rooted in Akkeshi
Sales are available at huîtrière's brewery shop, official online store, and selected retailers. The brand name huîtrière means "a place where oysters grow" in French, which fits the brewery's home in Akkeshi, Hokkaido, a town known for its rich coastal environment and oyster culture. That background has shaped huîtrière's lineup, including its flagship AKKESHI OYSTER LAGER.
Rather than a one-off seasonal release, the Hanasaki Line project is meant to grow into an ongoing regional support initiative. AKKESHI EMERALD sets that tone clearly: a beer that translates a specific landscape into flavor while connecting the brewery's work more directly to the place it comes from.
