At the beer pub umbrella RiB (Umbrella RiB) in Tomoganocho, Osaka, 12 craft beers were on offer during business hours from 5:00 p.m. to midnight on May 19. The shop is on the first floor of the Juraku Building in Tomogano, Kita Ward, Osaka City, and its tap lineup changes from day to day, which is one of its defining features.

Leading the lineup that day was You Waku Mosaic, a collaboration between Beppu Brewery, Ladybirds, and umbrella RiB. Built with the easygoing drinkability typical of a Session IPA, it also delivers a solid hop aroma, making it a natural first pint. Next came IPAs with different shades of aroma and bitterness, including Tight Lines, a West Coast IPA; Protea, a Hazy Double IPA; and Locomotion, an American IPA.

If you want to change gears, there were options like Akkeshi Rouge, a Red Saison; Shimanami Super Hassaku Sour, a Fruit Hard Seltzer; and fruit beers such as White Pearl and Hinoberry Ale. The range widened further with Papa Zaru Lager, a Dark Lager; Australian Pilsner w/ Ume, a Flavored Pilsner; American Pale Ale, a Pale Ale; and Spiral, an American Belgo Syale Ale.

Looking at the taps, the lineup included Kuni no Cho Beer from Osaka, along with regional names such as Minoh Beer and Nara Brewing from Kansai; Yuitriere from Hokkaido; Amakusa Sonar Beer from Kumamoto; Two Rabbits Brewing from Shiga; Shimanami Brewery from Hiroshima; VERTERE from Tokyo; and Revision from the United States. The appeal of the day was being able to compare each region's character through tasting side by side.

umbrella RiB pairs well not only with beer but also with meat dishes and weekend-only limited burgers. From stopping by for a single drink after work to tasting different styles with a few friends, it is the kind of place that works well when you want to take your time enjoying draft beer around Umeda.
