Pecora Beer, based in Asao Ward, Kawasaki City, Kanagawa Prefecture, has unveiled its new '#052 Churro / Churro.' In its Instagram post, the brewery described the style as California Common, with ABV 5.0% and IBU 41.
The beer's core flavor is a malt-derived aroma that evokes toast and caramel. For aroma hops, it uses a small amount of "Cryo Amarillo," achieving both the clean drinkability of a lager and the bright character of an ale. Rather than leaning on flashy adjuncts, the recipe appears designed around the contours of malt and the nuance of hops.
The beer name "Churro" comes from "Navajo-Churro," the sheep breed that became the first livestock sheep in the Americas and spread during the era of westward expansion. True to Pecora Beer, the naming reflects its sheep motif, blending the beer's personality with the brand's worldview.
Pecora Beer is a Kawasaki craft brewery where the representative himself handles brewing. Its official website says it mainly offers clean yet bold American-style beers with restrained astringency. At the attached "Pecora Beer Kitchen," up to nine kinds of house-made beer are available, and being able to enjoy them freshly brewed on site is part of the appeal.
The post also touches on the brand's previous achievements. It introduces #009 "Mugi no Ka" as a Pecora Beer version of the beer, noting that it won silver in the California Common category at the 2025 Japan Great Beer Awards, and this new release is seen as a beer that consciously follows that lineage. Balancing aroma and drinkability within a standard framework seems to be one of Pecora Beer's strengths.
