Choryo Shuzo, based in Koryo, Kitakatsuragi, Nara, has announced the release of NZ WEST COAST HAZY IPA. Shipping is scheduled to begin on September 16.

The beer is a modern IPA made with three New Zealand hop varieties. As suggested by its name, it features an attractive, lightly hazy appearance associated with Hazy IPAs. At the same time, the brewery describes the palate as drinkable and approachable rather than overly heavy, bringing in the crisp character of a West Coast IPA.

The main aromatic impressions are white grape and lime, with bright fruit notes supported by refreshing citrus-like nuances. The combination is designed to highlight the vivid, expressive character of New Zealand hops from the moment the beer is poured.

Hazy IPAs are generally known for their haze, soft mouthfeel, and pronounced hop aromas, while West Coast IPAs are often associated with a sharper bitterness and a cleaner finish. NZ WEST COAST HAZY IPA appears to bring these contrasting elements together, pairing a colorful appearance and aromatic intensity with a palate that remains easy to drink.

Choryo Shuzo is a Nara-based sake brewery that also offers craft beer and other alcoholic beverages through its online shop. This release represents the brewery’s continued engagement with contemporary hop-driven beer styles while drawing on its background as a traditional Japanese producer.

With its white grape and lime aromatics, the beer is positioned as a refreshing interpretation of the modern IPA: visually expressive, hop-forward, and balanced for repeated drinking.
