The Beer Exhibition in NAGAOKA will take place at Aore Nagaoka, the city hall plaza directly connected to Nagaoka Station, from September 4 to 6. Admission is free. Hours are 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sept. 4, 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sept. 5, and 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sept. 6. Because the venue is a weatherproof indoor facility, it should be easy to enjoy regardless of the forecast.

The event will feature 29 breweries from across Japan and overseas, including Hokkaido and Taiwan. The official site highlights Niigata names such as Echigo Beer, Swan Lake Beer, HEISEI BREWING, and Yoshinogawa Setteya Craft, alongside breweries like Shiga Kogen Beer, BLACK TIDE BREWING, AJB Co., and CRAFTROCK BREWING. The lineup spans IPA, Hazy IPA, lager, fresh hop beer, Belgian-style beer, and craft beer made with rice koji.

Food vendors will also join the event, including local shops from Nagaoka and Niigata, so visitors can pair drinks with regional dishes and snacks. Draft craft beer and draft non-alcoholic beer will both be available, making the event flexible for different drinking styles.

Against that backdrop, Tendo Brewery in Yamagata is worth noting as a different kind of regional craft-beer destination. Located inside the Yunbo Ichiraku ryokan in Tendo Onsen, it is a rare brewery run by a hot-spring inn. Its signature beers are "Seioubou (Saint Cherry)," brewed with local cherries, and "Mr.A," a soba-aroma beer. Guests can even drink fresh draft beer on the terrace after bathing.

Seen together, Nagaoka's large-scale beer festival and Tendo Brewery's onsen-side brewing show two sides of the same scene: broad tasting opportunities at an event, and a strong sense of place at a brewery-pub.
