Nara Brewing Co. unveils DOUBLE SWISHER with ANY B&B + COFFEE
Nara Brewing Co., the Nara-based craft brewery, is releasing DOUBLE SWISHER, a collaboration with specialty coffee roaster ANY B&B + COFFEE that aims to express an espresso tonic through beer. The project follows earlier joint beers and will be available in 350 ml cans and on draft.
Nara Brewing Co., based in Nara City, has announced a new collaboration with specialty coffee roaster ANY B&B + COFFEE: DOUBLE SWISHER. The pair have worked together before on beers such as COSMIC LATTE and YUGEN, but this release takes a different approach by translating the lightness and refreshment of an espresso tonic into beer.
For the brew, Yuutaro, the barista and roaster at ANY B&B + COFFEE, created a blend designed specifically for the concept. In the glass, DOUBLE SWISHER shows a clear, pale color. The aroma brings a distinct coffee character, but also a tropical-fruit-like nuance derived from Uganda natural beans. No fruit was added; the layered impression comes from the beans themselves.
On the palate, the beer opens with lively carbonation, followed by two layers of coffee character from a blend of lightly roasted and dark-roasted beans. The lightly roasted component brings an apricot-like acidity, while the darker roast adds familiar coffee toastiness and depth. An orange-like yeast note lifts the fruit impression further, and the finish drops away cleanly with a coffee aftertaste that feels closer to tonic water than to a heavy dessert beer.
DOUBLE SWISHER will be released in 350 ml cans and on draft. The name refers to a type of lure with two propellers, a nod to Yuutaro's other role as the owner of Ethics, a wooden lure brand that connects anglers and forests. For Nara Brewing Co., the result is a beer that reflects both its local roots and a careful, ingredient-driven collaboration.
