Ushitora's Hazy Double IPA Tapped for the First Time

At HOPMAN on May 30, 2026, guest beer Ushitora #998 Doroyoi appeared on tap. It had been a while since a Hazy Double IPA showed up, and this one uses five kinds of hops. The design layers sweet tropical-fruit aromas with notes of strawberry, peach, and citrus, creating a clearly felt aromatic depth. Despite an ABV of 9.5%, all of the hops are added during fermentation, so the IBU is 0. Because the sugar is also fully fermented out, the beer is crafted to emphasize a clean drinking experience rather than heaviness.

That day, HOPMAN also had the appeal of a beer pub on the second floor near Chigasaki Station, with a wide tap lineup. From lighter beers to more substantial ones, there was plenty to compare, including Shiga Kogen Beer DPA and KASUMI, Kyoto Brewing's Summer Whim, Ise Kadoya Brewery's Sour IPA: Strawberry & Raspberry, and Uchu Brewing's GRAND CROSS.

On the food side, a dish of fried chicken thigh was offered with "hango-roshi tartar sauce." The fruity Hazy Double IPA pairs well with savory fried food, making it a good choice both for a first drink and for something to slowly settle in with. It was the kind of beer-loving setup that feels right for HOPMAN, which opens from noon.
