Osaka Shibutani Brewing has introduced a new beer through an Instagram post featuring honey and bee imagery. Named Honey Kumquat Ale, the beer combines an ale base with honey and kumquat, adding a gently sweet aroma and bright citrus character to the malt and hop profile.

The honey used in the beer comes from Yamagata Yōhōjō, allowing the ingredient’s producer to be identified as part of the product story. While the brewery has not published detailed tasting specifications, the combination suggests a beer balancing honey’s roundness with kumquat’s fresh citrus notes and subtle bitterness.

The beer appeared at the 46th Gourmet Taste Selection at Kyoto Takashimaya S.C., where it was sold in 330ml bottles for ¥792, with 250 bottles available. The event lineup also included the brewery’s pale ale and weizen, offering visitors an opportunity to compare the new release with established styles from the brewery.

Based in Fujiidera, Osaka, Osaka Shibutani Brewing operates a brewery and direct sales shop. According to its official website, the brewery carries on the spirit of Shōzaburō Shibutani, who was involved in one of Japan’s earliest domestically brewed beers, Shibutani Beer, launched in Osaka in 1872.

The brewery’s 河内乃えーる, or Kawachi no Ale, series has also explored ingredients associated with the southern Osaka region. Honey Kumquat Ale continues that approach, bringing together a familiar ale framework and distinctive ingredients for a beer that connects local identity with a fresh, citrus-led flavor concept.
