Osaka Shibutani Brewing, a craft brewery based in Fujiidera, Osaka, introduced its new beer, Honey Kumquat Ale, through an advance limited bottle sale at the Ajihyakusen event held at Kyoto Takashimaya S.C.

The beer uses ripe kumquats to highlight their clean acidity and the subtle bitterness of the fruit’s peel. Honey from Yamagata Honey Farm was added to balance those citrus notes with a refined sweetness. According to the brewery, the beer combines the full-bodied, aromatic character of an ale with the juicy and refreshing impression of kumquat.

Yamagata Honey Farm also participated in the Kyoto event, making the ingredient connection part of the product’s presentation. The brewery recommends pairing the beer with rich foods such as grilled chicken and cheese. Kumquat’s acidity and peel bitterness should provide a crisp counterpoint to the savory and creamy flavors of those dishes.

The advance sale ran from September 2 through September 8, 2026, at the event space and grand hall on the seventh floor of Kyoto Takashimaya S.C. Opening hours were listed as 10:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., with an early 5 p.m. closing on the final day. As the announcement described the release as an advance limited sale, further details about regular distribution have not been specified.

Osaka Shibutani Brewing operates a brewery and direct-sales shop in Fujiidera. Its product range includes beers made with regional ingredients such as yuzu, Japanese pepper, tomatoes, and citrus. The brewery’s official history also connects its name with Shibutani Shosaburo, who began producing and selling “Shibuya Beer” in Osaka in 1872—an early example of beer brewing by Japanese hands.

Honey Kumquat Ale continues that focus on local character while exploring a gentle fruit-and-honey profile. For beer fans, it offers an opportunity to taste how kumquat acidity, peel bitterness, honey sweetness, and ale malt richness are layered in a food-friendly release.
