A guest beer for Ox Day weekend

BEER BAR Awatachi, located in Shin-ei Shopping Street in central Fukui, has announced its weekend lineup for the midsummer Ox Day season. The featured beer is BAK's "Ox Day'26 Kabayaki Dark Ale," a seasonal release inspired by grilled eel kabayaki.

The beer leans into caramel malt richness and sansho pepper aromatics. This year's version has been revamped into a darker dark ale, with a deeper color and a more pronounced sauce-like depth. The idea is clear: a beer that echoes kabayaki while still working as an easy-drinking companion for food.

Pairing it with unagi

Awatachi is also preparing an eel snack made with domestic unagi. In the post, the shop says it has sourced Japanese eel from Unagi-ya Kawai Su and will serve it as a bar snack alongside the beer. It is a fitting, slightly playful pairing for a beer bar during Ox Day weekend.

The schedule runs July 24 (Fri) from 18:00 to 22:00, July 25 (Sat) from 15:00 to 22:00, and July 26 (Sun) from 15:00 to 19:00. Eel snack sales run until 19:00 each day. Awatachi keeps the atmosphere casual as a standing beer bar, while still offering four draft beers at all times and a carefully chosen snack list.

A summer stop for beer fans

BAK's Ox Day'26 is billed as a beer you want to drink on Ox Day, and the positioning makes sense. For beer fans in Fukui looking for a seasonal stop that brings together craft beer and eel, Awatachi's weekend lineup is one to note.
