Hideji Beer’s Mukabaki Brewery in Nobeoka, Miyazaki Prefecture, has released the Kumamoto recovery beer "HOPe Step Jump for Kumamoto from Miyazaki" starting today. The project was planned as an initiative to pass on memories and foster disaster preparedness awareness at the milestone of 10 years since the Kumamoto Earthquakes, and a portion of sales will be donated to support Kumamoto’s regional recovery, including disaster reconstruction efforts.

This project is being carried out through collaboration among four companies, including Minami Aso Beer, Miyazaki Hideji Beer, and Mojiko Retro Beer, under the planning and supervision of Kumamoto Nichinichi Shimbun. The Kumamoto Earthquakes in April 2016 caused major damage across Kyushu, centered on Kumamoto Prefecture; in the Aso region in particular, the impact extended beyond homes and infrastructure to tourism and industry. This beer is also a single serving meant to keep those memories from fading.

The recipe uses spring water from the Shiio Water Source in Mashiki Town, Kumamoto Prefecture and Cascade hops and rice from Minami Aso, as well as two hop varieties, Luminosa and Superdelic. The name "HOPe" is a coined word combining hops and hope, while "STEP" and "JUMP" each carry wishes for steady progress and a leap forward.

The beer style is American Pale Ale. Its mild malt richness is layered with tropical aromas, creating a light, easy-drinking finish. With an alcohol content of 5% and a volume of 350 ml, it is designed to be approachable in the Hideji Beer style while condensing attention to Kumamoto’s ingredients and land into a commemorative recovery beer that pairs well with meals. It is also intended to go well with Kumamoto’s famous akaushi beef bowl.
