Event overview

Sakamichi Brewing, based in Tachikawa, Tokyo, will host Sakamichi Summer Fest at its taproom from June 19 through June 21. In an Instagram post announcing the event, the brewery said this year’s edition will be an IPA contest built around a Japan vs. America theme. Four IPAs from award-winning American breweries and four IPAs from breweries in Japan will be poured, and guests can vote for their favorite while the beers are on tap.

On its official website, Sakamichi Brewing describes itself as a brewery and taproom focused on a modern, welcoming space in western Tokyo. The brewery says it values the process behind beer as much as the finished pint, emphasizing patience, craftsmanship, hard work, and attention to detail in its approach to brewing.

That background makes this event a natural fit. Sakamichi’s beer list includes styles such as Hazy IPA, Session IPA, West Coast IPA, and Mountain IPA, so an IPA-focused contest plays directly to its strengths. For beer drinkers in Tachikawa, the festival offers a straightforward way to compare different interpretations of the style and follow the crowd’s voting as the event unfolds.
