Founded in 2017, Komainu Brewing began as a family brewing project and has continued to make beer in its home city of Kashiwa. According to the brewery, its beers cover a wide range of styles and ingredients, including unusual styles designed to remain approachable and easy to distinguish.
Its lineup includes Kashiwa Hajime IPA, a red IPA built around a balance of aromatic hop character, bitterness, and rich malt flavor, as well as Masakado Beer, a Belgian dubbel that emphasizes aromas and flavors derived from malt and fermentation rather than relying primarily on hops. Kashiwa Hajime IPA previously received a gold award at the Japan Great Beer Awards 2019, while Masakado Beer earned a silver award at the International Beer Cup.
Komainu Brewing also operates the B&T Plus taproom in Kashiwa. Since March 2026, the venue has paired the brewery’s beers with tantanmen prepared by chef Kubota, formerly of Kashiwa Tantanmen.
