A West Coast IPA inspired by Okagaki
Fukuoka Craft Brewing released Mountain Adventure West Coast IPA on September 11. The brewery is located in Okagaki, Fukuoka, where Mount Yukawa and Mount Kodai-ji rise on one side, while fields and the windsurfing destination Hatsu Beach stretch out in the other direction. The beer was brewed as a tribute to the mountains surrounding the brewery.
The IPA uses Simcoe and Chinook hops. According to the brewery, these varieties create a fresh and powerful aroma that evokes Okagaki’s pine forests and the breeze moving through the trees. With the hop-forward character associated with the West Coast style, the beer has an ABV of 6% and is designed to showcase a crisp bitterness and prominent hop expression.
Brewed with local natural water
Fukuoka Craft Brewing uses natural water drawn from 50 meters underground in Okagaki. The brewery describes the water as an unusually hard water for Japan and considers it an important element in producing the beers it aims to create.
Mountain Adventure West Coast IPA brings together the landscape around the brewery and its brewing water. Priced at ¥770, the beer offers a way to experience the character of Okagaki through piney hop aroma and firm bitterness—an appropriate companion for an autumn evening or a drink after a day outdoors.
