Fukuoka Craft Brewing, based in Okagaki, Fukuoka, has released Budou Ale, its collaboration beer with local winery Budou no Ki. The beer is priced at ¥803 and is sold as a refrigerated product.

Budou Ale is a fruit ale made with a generous amount of freshly pressed juice from Fuji no Yume, a wine grape variety grown in Fukuoka Prefecture. The beer brings the aromatic character of a wine grape into an ale brewed by a local craft brewery.

This release is the third grape ale produced through the collaboration with Budou no Ki. Behind the project is the winery’s brewing manager, who had long held the dream of making a beer with grapes. The result brings together the regional identity of both beer and wine in a single collaboration.

A beer shaped by Okagaki

Fukuoka Craft Brewing uses natural water drawn from 50 meters underground in Okagaki. The brewery describes this water as unusually hard for Japan and considers it an important element in pursuing its ideal beer.

By combining the brewery’s local water with grapes grown and pressed by a winery in the same town, Budou Ale reflects the ingredients and producers of Okagaki. It also demonstrates how local agricultural products can be given a new expression through craft beer.

The beer is categorized as a fruit ale and has an alcohol content of 5%. It should appeal to drinkers interested in grape-forward aromas, as well as those curious about the space between craft beer and wine. The product should be kept refrigerated after purchase.
