A cross-Pacific take on Hazy IPA

KAIJU PANDA is a collaboration beer built around a playful story: a robot panda visiting Japan from the United States is suddenly struck by an energy blast and transforms into a kaiju. The concept is reflected in the beer itself, which brings together the Hazy IPA styles of Fukuoka Craft Brewing and Hopworks Brewery in Oregon.

The beer is double dry-hopped, putting hop aroma and flavor at the center of the experience. The product description evokes “hop aroma and flavor beams” shooting from the panda’s eyes, an apt image for a beer designed to showcase the expressive, juicy character associated with Hazy IPA. At 7% ABV, it also offers a substantial drinking profile for fans of hop-forward beers.

Pouring it into a glass should help open up the aroma and make the hazy appearance easier to appreciate. It is best enjoyed chilled, with the hop character given time to develop as the beer warms slightly.

Brewed with Okagaki’s distinctive water

Based in Okagaki, Fukuoka, Fukuoka Craft Brewing produces American-influenced craft beer and operates a brewery and taproom. The brewery highlights natural water drawn from 50 meters underground in Okagaki. Described as unusually hard water by Japanese standards, it is considered an important part of the brewery’s approach to creating its ideal beers.

KAIJU PANDA represents a meeting of brewing perspectives from Fukuoka and Oregon. It is available for ¥869 and is a refrigerated product, so it should be stored cold after purchase.
