A pilsner joins the core lineup

TIELS Brewing is a small brewery in Izumicho, Mishima, Shizuoka, working with a 250-liter brewhouse and brewing beers that make use of fruits and agricultural products from the Izu area. At its adjoining taproom, TIELS TEA & TAPS, visitors can enjoy the brewery's beers alongside food, tea, and non-alcoholic drinks.

In its 4th-anniversary announcement, the brewery said it will add a pilsner to its regular lineup. TIELS noted that it has previously brewed a lager called Sweet Corn Lager, but had not made a straightforward pilsner until now. Rather than adding more ingredients or more complexity for the anniversary, the brewery said it wanted to strip things back and look at brewing in a more direct way, because simple beers reveal quality most clearly.

Pilsner is one of the most recognizable beer styles, but it is also highly sensitive to details such as malt selection and brewing method. TIELS describes this first release as the starting point for the style in its lineup and says it will continue refining the beer over time. Service begins on June 26, and the brewery is inviting drinkers to compare it with other pilsners and share feedback.

For a brewery that has built its identity around local ingredients and small-scale brewing in Mishima, the 4th anniversary feels less like a celebration of scale and more like a moment to sharpen its foundations. The new pilsner will show how that approach translates into one of beer's most classic styles.
