Two Sankaku Beers on Tap at a 7-Seat Bar in Kagoshima, Plus an Okinawa-Linking Collaboration
Backyard Bar in Kajiya-cho, Kagoshima City, updated its Instagram on March 18 and introduced two Sankaku Beer Works labels. The lineup includes the Okinawa collaboration "ROUTE 58 – Botanical Saison" and "Nigedo / Coffee Stout," which makes use of coffee-derived aromas, all to be enjoyed at a tiny seven-seat counter bar.
Backyard Bar in Kajiya-cho, Kagoshima City (7 counter seats) announced the Sankaku Beer Works offerings in a March 18 post. The post also listed the bar's business details: "19:00-25:00," "open year-round," "cover charge 500 yen," "smoking prohibited all day (including e-cigarettes)," and "reservations not accepted."
The two beers introduced this time are below.
- ROUTE 58 – Botanical Saison
Introduced as a collaboration linking Kagoshima and Okinawa. It uses shell ginger leaves and roselle, and is characterized by a floral aroma, gentle spiciness, and a light acidity.
- Nigedo / Coffee Stout
A cold-brew stout made with coffee beans from El Salvador. The highlights are a soft coffee aroma, a finish reminiscent of brown sugar, and a balance of roast character with light acidity, presenting a direction described as "like iced coffee, but clearly a stout."
Sankaku Beer Works is a brewery that emphasizes brewing with water from the springs of Kawanabe in Kagoshima (Shimizu spring water). With local water at its core, recipes like this one, which reach into connections with Okinawa and the use of coffee ingredients, are noteworthy as an expansion of the local craft context. The fact that two labels can be experienced side by side in a bar format is also something beer comparison fans won't want to miss.
